Latest update Spring 2011
cont>>
In early 2011 the Government announced that all of
the Local Development Frameworks which had been demanded
by the previous Government and which incorporated
Government imposed housing targets had been withdrawn.
All councils are now required to draw up new strategic
plans based on local need, rather than being based on
arbitrary Government targets. It was the last
Government’s instruction to Councils to build more
houses which had provided the opportunity for Greenway
Land to try to develop the old airfield site. Now
that local planning strategy is to be determined on a
local needs basis, even though Greenway Land still own
some 200 acres on the airfield site and still have
options on the other 400 acres they had intended to
include within the development, the new planning
environment makes it almost impossible for a plan of
this scale to go ahead without central government
intervention.
